The Lathums

The Lathums’ second album, From Nothing To A Little Bit More, opens with “Struggle,” a raw and honest introduction to an album that oscillates between optimism and melancholy. Frontman Alex Moore describes the record as a reflection of dark, personal experiences, including grief from both bereavement and romantic breakups. While the songs explore different themes, they often return to the same “dark things,” revealing a core of sadness beneath Alex’s humorous bravado. Tracks like “Struggle,” “Calling Out,” and “Sad Face Baby” express this pain, though moments of joy also emerge, such as in “Lucky Bean,” a song about love lost. Despite personal challenges, the trio—Alex, guitarist Scott Concepcion, and drummer Ryan Durrans—remain strong and unified, particularly after the departure of bassist Johnny Cunliffe.

Having achieved a number-one album with their debut, How Beautiful Life Can Be, The Lathums have seen rapid success, including sold-out shows and collaborations with The Killers’ Brandon Flowers. This second album, produced by Jim Abiss and John Kettle, is a “step up” for the band, showcasing their growth as musicians and their ability to connect deeply with listeners. Alex’s songwriting is raw and personal, shaped by his emotional struggles, while Scott and Ryan’s musicianship continues to evolve. Despite their sadness and challenges, The Lathums remain proud of their work and confident in their future, determined to continue making music that resonates with their fans.
