From Heaven 17 to Honky, ABC to Artic Monkeys, Joe to Jarvis Cocker, Stunt Kites to Self Esteem and The Dylans to Def Leppard to name just a few, the gritty industrial landscape of South Yorkshire, peppered with coal mines and working men’s clubs, has long been a bastion of popular music.
But just as the heritage of heavy industry is giving way to a more modern and digital economy, recent years have seen a new wave of bands and artists emerging from the once downtrodden vista of steel, slag and woodchip-walled two up two downs.
One such band of upstarts is The Denabys, hailing from, well, Denaby, a former mining town on the outskirts of my own home city of Doncaster.
Formed in 2021 the four piece comprises brothers Niall Ogley (Vocals / Guitar) and Declan Ogley (Bass) together with Jack Fletcher (Lead Guitar) and Calum Green (Drums).
