The new single “Lately” from young phenom August Charles couldn’t come at a better time. August’s soul-fuelled voice takes the listener on an effortless sound introspection, a story of release and recognition. ‘Lately’ reflects the daunting thoughts that serge through your mind as you progress into being a young adult, feeling paranoid, anxious, dazed & confused. The track is a soulful take on indie pop. Produced by the incredibly talented Lvther.
Born in Ndola, Zambia and raised throughout the UK, August grew up between two worlds that cannot be more different. Influenced by the music of Frank Ocean, Leon Bridges, Gorillaz and King Krule, he first started exploring his vocal abilities at the age of 12 as a member of a Doncaster high school choir.
August Charle’s musical vocabulary includes Soul, R&B, Indie Pop and Jazz. The melancholy of his voice transcends the listener into the serenity of exploration and emotional deep diving.
More recently August Charles was listed as one of the upcoming artists to watch by BBC Introducing leading to features on BBC Radio 1 & Jazz FM. The singer-songwriter supported the likes of Emeli Sandé & will be support Nile Rodgers & CHIC for 2 days in June at the Halifax Peace Hall, while his singles have promoted on multi Spotify playlists such as Alternative R&B, my life is a movie, Lowkey & many more.
